13 Expert SEO Tips for 2024

Looking for some expert SEO tips for 2024?

I recently interviewed 13 SEO experts to get their opinions on what to focus on in 2024.

One of the great things about speaking with other SEO professionals is that we can bounce ideas, helping us to find tips we may not be privy to.

Read on to hopefully learn something new!

Focus on UX and Prospect-Centric Content

“I’ve been doing SEO as my main marketing channel for six-plus years or so. I was good at it, and nothing beats the ROI on SEO (when it works).

The strategies Google tells us to use don’t work. Big websites dominate everything. Being on the first page doesn’t mean much anymore.

Getting the foundations right is always important. That is, UX, E-E-A-T, architecture, markups, compliance, etc.

Define your ideal prospect. Create content that answers their questions or helps them solve a problem. Use marketing automation to understand when they are ready to buy.”

Jugnu Nagar, SEO Specialist, Help In Homework

Jugnu Nagar

It’s an SEOs job to understand what works and what doesn’t. The only real way to know this is test and learn yourself.

Big sites do tend to dominate, but that’s not to say there isn’t room for niche players and small businesses.

Nailing your SEO foundations is also key.

Prioritize Quality Content and User Experience

“My go-to SEO tactic for 2024 is focused on creating high-quality, relevant content that provides value to users.

This includes in-depth research and analysis of keywords, as well as the use of powerful backlinks to increase website authority.

One tip for others wanting to implement this tactic is to stay updated with the latest search engine algorithm changes and trends, and to constantly monitor and optimize content for better performance.

It’s also important to prioritize user experience, mobile-friendliness, and site speed, as these are key factors in ranking well on search engines.

Tom Molnar, Operation Manager – Web Designer – SEO Expert, Fit Design

Tom Molnar

Agree with Tom here, these are the main pillars of SEO. Great content, great links and a great website. Nailing the basics can get you a long way.

Leverage Custom GPTs for SEO Efficiency

My go-to SEO tactic for this year is using custom GPTs for SEO.

There’s a whole host of custom GPTs you can use, so feel free to Google them and try them out. Better yet, see if you can create your own GPT with your own data so it can be tailor-made to your needs.

Some of my favorites include “Seer’s Screaming Frog & Technical SEO Companion” and “Quality Raters’ SEO Guide.” It saves me a lot of time with my E-E-A-T & technical SEO analysis for client deliverables. Additionally, it helps speed up the process for the mundane details.

David Begazo, SEO Specialist, Agency Elevation

David Begazo

Custom GPTs are amazing, and wow, the ones David has suggested are awesome! You must test those out.

A favourite GPT of mine is “SEO Featured Snippet” – this summarises your content and writes a result designed to target the featured snippet. This is great for your own content, or quickly analysing a competitors.

Creativity and Authority Boost SEO

In SEO, creativity and authority are key. It’s a broad domain where creativity isn’t confined to subjective measures like word count, perceived engagement levels, or arbitrary statistics.

Effective content demands context—it needs to resonate with its intended audience. Additionally, third-party validation is crucial. This means garnering backlinks, social shares, and mentions from reputable sources, which significantly enhance a site’s authority and visibility in search engine rankings.

John Cammidge, Google Ads Consultant, JTC

John Cammidge

Great points here from John. Creating content that resonates with your audience means it needs to be contextual and answer the intent, along with being something worth sharing on other platforms.

Understanding this will help you shape the format and medium of your content. Links and social shares are a bonus to drive awareness.

Multiply Backlinks with Digital PR

My go-to SEO tactic for 2024 is to build high-quality backlinks using digital PR. By leveraging platforms like HARO, SourceBottle, and Featured, I can quickly multiply my backlinks.

There have been more and more Google Algorithm updates in the past year; we need not only good content and on-page optimization but also a strong backlink profile in order to rank higher in Google Search.

Mei Ping Mak, Director of SEO and Web, Weave Asia

Mei Ping Mak

Digital PR is very powerful as it’s a differentiator in SEO. The links are strong and not easy to get. Mei Ping lists a number of platforms you can use to start chasing these links.

Optimize for Local SEO Engagement

In 2024, focusing on local SEO will be a powerful SEO tactic.

Optimize your Google My Business listing with accurate information, photos, and encourage positive reviews. Ensure consistent business information across directories.

Engage with the local community and leverage local events or partnerships. For example, a bakery in New York can collaborate with a local coffee shop for cross-promotion. By targeting local customers effectively, businesses can gain a competitive edge in their local market and drive more organic and relevant traffic.

Ben Lau, Founder, Featured SEO Company

Ben Lau

Solid tips from Ben. Local SEO is so much more than your GBP, even for big businesses. Community events and partnerships are a great way to get backlinks while also getting eyeballs on your brand.

There’s a lot of relationship building here too which can be very beneficial for businesses outside of potential SEO uplift.

Enhance Blogs with Strategic Call-to-Actions

My one go-to SEO tactic for 2024 is to use a blog, or what I’m calling a helpful blog strategy.

This is essentially where we go a little further than just publishing consistent weekly blogs on our clients’ websites that are optimized to rank on search.

These blogs also incorporate helpful call-to-actions, 2-3 times throughout the blog. This means that if we’re explaining a complicated topic to the reader, they can then use ‘book a call’ or ‘book a consultation’ call-to-actions that are dotted subtly throughout the blog to get more information or to contact someone about their product.

So, having optimized blogs, then taking it a bit further with helpful call-to-actions, is our tactic for 2024 as it has a higher conversion rate. We also found that those who purchase or inquire after finding a website through a blog are more likely to buy and are more likely to be loyal customers.

Kate Jones, Content Manager, Lumen SEO

Kate Jones

I really like this tip from Kate. Blog content is an incredible way to drive traffic and subsequent conversions, so CTAs and product links are vital. You never want your content to be a dead in, it should help support the conversion path.

I like Kate’s idea of adding a CTA when they know the reader may need further detail.

Integrate Data and AI in SEO Strategy

SEO in 2024 focuses on two main things: data and AI. I recommend marketers revisit in-house data by talking to the sales team to understand customer or prospect objections, reasons why they purchased, or why they did not.

Weaving this information into messaging and strategy does wonders. And when it comes to AI, adapt or die. We at Spark Hat have taken a deep look into how to best integrate the power of AI into decision-making.

No, AI is not just content. We use it for market research, content gap analysis, keyword mining, and much more. 2024 is going to be fun.

Sumant Vasan, Founder and CEO, Spark Hat

Sumant Vasan

Honestly there isn’t much more I can add here apart from I agree wholeheartedly. I love that Sunmant mentions using AI for gap analyses and keyword research, it’s such a powerful tool for those things.

Update Content with Link-Building Campaigns

One tactic we’ve started doing this year is a link-building campaign where we’re reaching out to ‘2023 trends’ pieces in our clients’ spaces and offering to provide a quote for 2024.

Website owners are usually happy to include our quote since it helps update their article, and our client gets a solid link.

Isaac Hammelburger, Founder, Search Pros

Isaac Hammelburger

Simple and incredibly effective tactic from Isaac. Something like this is a great use of time when link building, especially if you’re after unique and high authority links.

Maintain Topical Authority for Content

Our go-to practice is to keep our topical authority in mind and continue working on producing content that falls within our scope of authority.

If recent Google updates have shown anything, it’s the importance of topical authority. If the content scope goes too broad, Google is likely to hit the site hard. I’ve seen how a site goes from over 15,000 monthly organic traffic (in a highly lucrative content niche) to under 5,000 organic traffic within a matter of days, and it was mostly due to the broad content scope.

In 2024, putting all your eggs into one content basket seems to be the wise move, and it’s the go-to practice we’re following this upcoming year.

Viktoria Krusenvald, ANWPB Board Certified Nutritional Consultant, Wellness Patron

Viktoria Krusenvald

Viktoria highlights a very important concept. Topical authority, even though it sounds buzzwordy, is how you rank content efficiently in SEO.

Google will never rank you for a high volume generic keyword unless you cover that topic in it’s entirety, and with great content.

And on the flip said as she mentions, going too broad can have a negative impact. Don’t dilute your website niche.

Feature Experts to Align with E-E-A-T

My go-to SEO tactic in 2024 is creating high-quality content featuring subject-matter experts to align with Google’s E-E-A-T guidelines.

To implement this, you need to focus on demonstrating expertise and firsthand experience in your content. Engage as many experts as possible who can add depth and authenticity to your topics!

Remember, trust and reputation are central to E-E-A-T. This approach will not only satisfy search engines but will also enhance your brand’s credibility and SEO performance.

Onno Halsema, CEO, Contentoo

Onno Halsema

Looks like Onno and I have the same idea. This is reason why I love featuring experts on my site. The content is authentic, valuable, and often I learn a thing or two as well!

Connect with Audience Through Quality Content

In 2024, my go-to SEO strategy will remain centered on crafting top-notch content. I firmly believe that creating content that genuinely connects with your audience is the key to SEO success. It’s about providing real value, answering questions, and sparking engagement.

Be consistent with your content creation efforts, addressing the needs and interests of your target audience. Don’t forget to weave in relevant keywords naturally, as it’s still essential.

For those looking to implement this tactic, start with thorough keyword research, keep an eye on how your content performs, and adapt as needed. Building strong backlinks from reputable sources is still crucial.

Just remember, SEO is an ongoing journey. Stay updated with industry trends and keep an eye on algorithm changes, because that’s how you stay at the top of the game.

Cody Jensen, CEO and Founder, Searchbloom

Cody Jensen

Like a few others in this article, Cody is also reinforcing the value of quality content.

As he says, keyword research and monitoring performance is part of the tactic. Tweaking content once live can often have some nice SEO benefits.

Combine Topical Authority with Personal Insights

In 2024, my SEO tactic will focus on a combination of topical authority and personal experience-based content. The goal is to continually develop content that not only covers a topic comprehensively but also includes unique insights drawn from personal experiences.

With each algorithm update, Google gradually eliminates affiliate websites that merely regurgitate existing content from other sites, instead prioritizing those that offer actual real-life human experiences with the product (which is something AI, due to its nature, can never match).

It’s about creating content that’s both informative and relatable, establishing your site as a go-to resource in your niche. Adding personality and opinions to reviews makes your content stand out in search engines, as it offers both depth and a personal touch. By doing so, you’re also building a connection with your audience, which is invaluable for SEO success.

Juliet Dreamhunter, Founder, Juliety

Juliet Dreamhunter

Great points from Juliet. Personal insights, even if just short opinions like my replies to each comment in this article add a personal touch, whether you agree with them or not.

My feel with personalisation and also featuring other experts, is that the content produced one of the most unique pieces you can create. AI can’t do a post like this.

And as Juliet said, it’s about creating content that is informative and relatable, while also building connections.

End Note

My hope is that you learnt a thing or two from this post, I know I did.

It would be easy for me to create an SEO tips of 2024 on my own, but that piece wouldn’t be as engaging. For article content like “tips for x”, engaging with your community and getting some answers is an awesome way to create great content.

Thank you to all of those who contributed!
